I've setup a development blog to handle the small development updates as I work on them because they don't really justify a front-page entry here.

Site has been upgraded in order to provide a better user experience and to better demonstrate progress as it happens.

On the right there is an indicator showing the current version of Nycterent, how long ago it was released, as well as the next planned version.

Also, a new screenshot section has been added in order to showcase how things are progressing, and eventually, to be able to look back and see how far we've come :)

Some data has been lost during the transition to a new system, and it will be slowly put back in place over time.

There hasn't been any updates on 002A for quite some time so just checking in to say that it doesn't mean that work has stopped, on the contrary, I've been involved in a very large amount of refactoring involving the entity system and network architecture which will offer greater flexibility and modding opportunities.

The entities will now run using components defined in code, but grouped together using XML or possibly an external data source. This means that servers may be able to give a connecting player their modified entity list, adding or removing items as they see fit to enhance or change gameplay in many ways. Combined with on-demand streaming of assets, this should allow servers to run complete modifications and the client will automatically sync up when they connect.

More info on all that soon. Oh and one last update, the versioning scheme has changed from 002A format to the much more traditional 0.2.0 format. versions will move into the double-digits, eg 0.13.0, so 0.9.0 does not mean that a 1.0 release is next.

Over the past couple of weeks alot of work has been done on procedural generation of solar systems and some rendering effects.

Just another progress video for 002A. This version keeps growing because I don't want to release it without at least the base atmosphere done so it gives the correct impression the first time players see it.
